Now that I am officially part-time at my day job, I have a lot more time to spend on my furniture projects! So, this week I was working on two pieces for a client’s nursery. Since they have decided to wait until the birth of their baby to find out the sex, so we had to go with a neutral color. After much deliberation, she finally decided to pick the Sherwin William’s color of “Dancing Green.”
So, I went to pick up the paint and was excited to learn that Home Depot and Lowes can basically match any color from any company. This was a great tip to find out. I know some people really think it is important to buy the high end paint, but I have to say I don’t agree. While I think it is important to buy quality paint, I think the middle of the road quality is usually fine, as I always prime my pieces with Zinsser’s Primer. I think this helps the paint go on evenly and it covers any existing stains or imperfections really nicely.
So, let me show you the dresser before (there is nightstand too, but the before picture I got is too dark). —
After several coats of primer, paint, a paste wax for sealing and some new hardware, we have a beautiful finished product. I love the gold details on the feet of the dresser and nightstand — they just add a nice touch to it’s fairly simple design.
I was really happy with how these pieces turned out. This green is a great shade because it is bright, but not overwhelming. It is actually quite peaceful. I think my client will be very happy with it and I can’t wait to see her reaction!
